Bob,
loved the site and the articles on the DR courses. Agree, you're right on. The picture of the wedding on the beach was great. Will keep watching.

Great stuff here Bob. Not many people have even thought about this which is shocking. Sure they're the bucket list trips where you have to seen Augusta and the Masters or a Open at St. Andrews but travelling to and attending an event isn't worth it. If you do go to an event I think it's best to see the practice rounds or early rounds. It guarantees you'll see all golfers and will have better viewing lines as they'll be spread out.

My first PGA event was the Canadian Open in 2005. I went to the final round and the host course Shaughnessy (which is hosting again next week) is very small in areas. VJ was the only marquee player even close to the letter board so we went to follow him. Good luck, it was packed. We watched three holes from terrible locations and decided to pack in and stand behind 14 green in prime seats behind the flag.

Carlos Franco hit one of the best shot's I've ever seen. A low, tight draw that landed and finished 2 feet from a tucked back pin. The experience was worth it right there and was no doubt one of those "these guys are good" advertisements.

So this year I am heading over to the Canadian Open once again as it has the best field in years thanks in part to RBC The plan is to watch the guys play in the mornings and take advantage of the flip draw. The excitement of the trip will not be for the Open but rather the chance to finally play Sagebrush!

I've wondered that same thing for years now...but when I go to a live sporting event, I remember why it was such a ridiculous thing for me to wonder. The worst situation I have come across was NCAA basketball in a football stadium. However, regardless of the event, actually being there is special. And with golf, you will never run out of people wanting to spend a day out in the fresh air. Even if you can't see every shot, the sundress scenery is more than worth the price of admission.

Hey Bob,

Glad to see you're still whacking away, in ink and on the tees. I can remember the coverage of Hogan at the time, and the sports writers did note that Hogan was an austere, often surly guy, who's attitude I inferred was accepted only because he was such a great player, and his comeback so fiercely admired. But nobody loved Ben Hogan, as far as I could tell. I was a sometime caddy in those days, admired the game, then a rich man's mostly, and took some interest in the likes of Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret, and others. Snead--now there was a sweet, generous and understated man. Kisses to your bride rich

"Spousal equivalent" - once you get past the ridiculous politically correct overtones - that's pretty funny !

Sounds like they did a nice job placing the forward tees at Willbrook. It can't be easy trying to find a single set of tees to satisfy the skill levels of so many women.

It seems a little accusatory to suggest that golf courses intentionally hire only men as starters. Wouldn't you need to find out how many women actually apply for the job of starter before making this statement ?

Can't we come up with a gender-neutral name for the red tees? Examples:
The Special Tee
The Sweet Tee
The Tee Short
The Frail Tee

Hi Bob...I just saw Ann tonight and asked her your opinion on the subj. of Justin's Johnson's penalty. When she told me, I told her I have been shocked that in all the web responses I have read, no one has mentioned the caddy's responsibility. I just said to Kenny last night that it was the caddy's responsibiity to get a sheet of all the bunkers on the course and to ask the rules official on the 18th to say if it was a bunker. A lot was at stake for Justin, but a lot for the caddie too. He blew it. and as much as I fault the PGA for poor crowd control, I am surprised more blogs have not faulted the caddy. Your blog is right on!
